marilyn@scces.ca, Executive Director

Adventure and risk are things that Marilyn faces daily as she works diligently to provide the quality services you find here. She is The coordinator of the SCEC and Executive Director of M. Magas & Associates Inc.; the administrative body for SCEC and other services offered here. As a former teacher, and coordinator of the 'Working in Trades' program, Marilyn has 20+ years experience in career development. Marilyn strives to initiate new training and service opportunities to meet the unique needs of the residents of the community. She is responsible for ensuring the objectives of the programs are met and for reporting to the funders. Among Marilyn’s many credentials and acknowledgements is the Netty Award for Mentor of the Year in 2002.

lynn@scces.ca, Executive Financial Director/Office Manger

Lynn is the Financial / Office Manager and Privacy Officer.  She has made the coast home since 1991.  Lynn is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the centre and all aspects of accounting. She is very committed to meeting the needs of the clients and staff.

debbie@scces.ca, Executive Assistant  

Debbie has been with SCEC for four years starting in the Resource Centre providing clients support. Although she can now be found covering any number of jobs at SCEC, as Executive Assistant, Debbie is mainly kept busy with the activities of the front office area, helping with financial and clerical needs of the company. She is still never too busy to help clients with using computers, faxes or photocopiers.

Shelley has been apart of our team for the past 9 years and has taken on several roles at the Centre. With her effervescent personality and great deal of knowledge in a variety of areas Shelley will find out what your needs are and point you in the right direction. 

scott@scces.ca, IT Resource Administrator

Scott first came to the employment centre as a client and now administrates our technical systems as well as assists clients in the Resource Centre.  Scott has worked with many large organizations including the CIBC and two TSE listed medical software companies.  Scott currently holds a B.Sc., an MCSE as well as a Networking Specialist Diploma.  When not in the office you will find Scott exploring the various trails across the Sunshine Coast.

Catherine, a friendly addition to the centre, brings with her 14 years experience with the Provincial Government, where she worked in many different capacities. Previously, she worked in Parks and Recreation and holds a Recreation Leadership Diploma from Langara, as well as being a graduate of the Outward Bound Leadership School.

Lora has been in the community for over 12 years. Her outgoing personality and professional manner are the first things people notice when arriving at the centre. Lora has an extensive background in business administration and marketing and is known for her excellent organizational skills. With a sincere interest in people and logical approach, Lora makes any task easier.

John is a leader, fun-master, motivational speaker, he has over 30 years experience as a life coach, facilitator, and instructor. John is a whirlwind of positive infectious energy, who makes even the impossible seem possible.

Carolyn is a warm and attentive addition to the resource center, bringing with her almost 30 years experience managing a private counseling business. Her administrative and people-helping strengths are paired with certifications as a Natural Health Consultant, Healing Touch Practitioner & Inner Fitness® Consultant. She is a published writer, including articles for the local Just Business People magazine. She’s energetically committed to extending her best to every person.

Employment Coaches & Counselors

noni@scces.ca, Employment Coach & Labour Market Information 

Noni comes to us with a background in social work and has worked in the social services sector for 15+ years.  Noni is the Labour Market Researcher for the centre and helps us make sense of the changing dynamics in the labour force.  Noni is MBTI and Strong certified for vocational testing and thoroughly enjoys the creative process of career exploration and discovery.  Noni has been able to provide insight and awareness for even the most unusual situations.

Marion has worn 'many hats' as a staff member on the SC Employment Center team.  She has worked in the Jobwave Program, Resource Center, coordinated the YAds (Young Adults Working Program) and presently, is an Employment Coach.  Marion's background includes over 25 years of frontline work experience in Community & Social Service Programs, Volunteer Resource Management, Tourism, Employment and Holistic Healthcare.

Joanne is one of our Employment Coaches. She comes to us with an extensive background in Human Resources Management. Having worked with employers and employees on a range of employment issues from recruitment, retainment and ongoing development, Joanne brings a different perspective to employment coaching.

Carol has worked at SCCES since 2001 as an employment coach and program facilitator.  Her extensive background in education, program design and facilitation, and community development has enhanced her ability to offer clients the supports that can lead to fulfilling life choices.  A Sunshine Coast resident since 1990, she is involved in many local projects, organizations and events, believing that the vitality and richness of our community depends on the contributions of each member.  Carol has her Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts in Whole Systems Design.

Barb is committed to empowering people to operate in their passion and greatness and strives for breakthrough results with each and every client that she works with. A certified Business Coach with a degree in Metaphysical Science, and an extensive background in conflict resolution and facilitation, Barb has worn many hats in life and continues to expand the boundaries of the imaginable for everyone who has the pleasure of working with her.

Angel has been working in the Employment field for the last ten years.  Her experiences along with the completion of the Career Development Facilitator's Program give her valuable tools to work with clients. She finds satisfaction in assisting clients of all backgrounds to acquire the necessary tools & self-sufficiency to ensure success in their employment & training goals. Angel has done research & development, event planning, resource client support, workshop facilitation and more. She is now the Leading Case Coordinator for the JobWave program as well as the PST Administrator.

Connie has a variety of roles within the Employment Centre, including the JOBWAVE program, resource support worker and Employer liaison. Her past experience in the social service industry, together with her education and training has given Connie a large degree of knowledge and capability to assist clients in meeting their employment goals.

Judy works with the ACHIEVE Program for Persons with Disabilities, helping disabled adults develop a plan for increased independence through employment and volunteer work. Having lived on the coast since 1975, Judy has worked as a teacher, a woodworker and as a vocational counselor. She believes in helping each person discover the activity that gives meaning and connection to the community. She supports the Abilities to Business Program at Community Futures in helping clients who choose self-employment as their path.

Peri is a certified Career Development Practitioner as well as Emotional Intelligence coach. She has many years of experience dealing with a diverse clientele of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Her compassionate but firm no-nonsense approach has earned her the respect of clients and colleagues alike.

Maureen is an Employment Coach who takes a personal interest in clients. Her background is in resource referral, peer counseling and volunteer coordination.  Maureen is a founding member of Community Opportunities for Independence Now (COIN) and its adjunct program, 2nd Byte Computer Recycling. Maureen is a certified Unified Transition Theory (UTT) and True Colors ™ facilitator and has taught the Advanced Resume workshop.

Niv brings over 20 years of experience in program development, teaching and training, mentoring, and coaching based on leading edge cognitive and psychological theory. In addition to her U of T MA, she is certified in Myers Briggs Type Indicator Assessment, Strong Interest Inventory, Unified Transition Theory, True Colors™, and Personality Dimensions™, and as a Practitioner of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming. In addition to running the Aspire Program with Claudia and Heather, she has been a core program facilitator for 10 years with a Vancouver entrepreneurial program which just celebrated its 1500th participant.

Claudia is a successful business person experienced in all phases of the business cycle. Past clients say they appreciate Claudia’s approachable style and practical ideas that connect their businesses with their target markets. Claudia's 30 year career includes ownership in a chain of 4 furniture stores (Quebec and New York City), a print and electronic gift catalogue, and a web development and internet marketing company. Claudia has an MA in Applied Communications. She also holds certificates in General Counselling and Internet Publishing.

Heather is an educator and business person with over 10 years experience helping small businesses owners develop their budgeting and financial tracking systems. An Aspire alumnus, Heather has helped hundreds of clients experience success in mathematics, bookkeeping, and other subjects through her own small business, The Learning Support Centre. She is now excited to be working with the Aspire team as a co-director to assist others in making complex concepts simple and easy to understand.

Francine enjoys being a part of making ‘great ideas’ happen. With an independent and entrepreneurial approach to work and life, she brings over two decades of administrative experience to the Aspire Self Employment Program. Since 1999, she has provided office and consulting services to small business, government and non-profit organizations on the Sunshine Coast and was instrumental in the creation and development of a regional Cultural Alliance. Francine is familiar with the challenges and opportunities that exist in our community and is knowledgeable of the array of resources available.

Bill, MA, Life Coach, is certified as a Transformational Leader in using a BodyMind approach to change.  He has developed and facilitated many career and work search programs for both the federal and provincial governments over the past 15 years.  As an entrepreneur himself, he has coached new start up ventures from business feasibility to successful operations.
